My friends decided to take a lovely pic for the Westboro Baptist Church. They’re not gay but they support gay rights
This is the most gangsta shit I have ever seen on tumblr
Straight men and women can also be fired, if their homophobic employer even thinks they are gay. And there is nowhere to appeal.
The Senate has passed a bill to end that discrimination. There are enough votes to pass it in the House of Representatives.
But John Boehner, the Speaker of the House, in Washington, D.C., intends to maintain discrimination and homophobia in the USA.
This is not OK.

Transgender Teenage Couple Transition Together (via The Huffington Post)
A pair of teenagers from Oklahoma might seem like your typical young couple, but their love story is unlike many others. The transgender couple actually transitioned together.
Just two years ago, Arin Andrews and Katie Hill hadn’t transitioned yet. The two had struggled with their identities throughout childhood; Hill had struggled with bullying. Then one day they met at a trans support group, after each had begun the transitioning process, and they fell in love.
Found this ridiculously sweet story today and wanted to share it with my followers.
YAY OKIE TRANS LOVE YAY
The Time Has Come for Me to Rant about Macklemore.
Why, am I going on a rant about Macklemore, do you ask? Because there are people on this website, and elsewhere who have particular views about him and what he does with his music that literally bother me so much that I can’t not rant about this anymore. I try really hard to keep a lot of this kind of thing off my personal now, but this is something that has built up ever since the VMAs and it’s beginning to make me really really mad.
I want you all to listen to the above song of Macklemore’s titled “White Privilege”. Listen to the words, think about the words, and think about what they mean for him as an artist.
Because what I am getting really, really sick of on this website and elsewhere is people saying that Macklemore “wouldn’t let Mary Lambert speak at the VMAs when she is actually lesbian” or that he “uses gay rights to sell out and make more money.” No. Stop. If you actually listened to what Macklemore does and knew about him, you wouldn’t say that.
Macklemore for a very long time BEFORE he ever signed to a record label, or really so much as had any major song on the radio or made any big bucks, was ALWAYS rapping about socially conscious subjects. This was before he had fans, and before he had fame or money. It has always been a passion of his and to me that tells me that Macklemore does it because he is genuinely passionate about these issues and not because he wants to take advantage of anyone who is a member of LGBTQ or of any other ethnicity.
If you listen to “White Privilege” or even “Same Love” Macklemore repeatedly acknowledges that he is white and he comes from privileged background. You can practically hear the guilt in his voice when he says that he feels like by rapping and releasing music, he is taking away from the true pain and struggle of hip hop. He said it bothers him that because he charges money to go to his concerts and that because he is trying to have a career for himself, there might be people who follow his music who can’t afford to come in, and that the only people who can are most likely privileged in some way, or white. He says straight up that he wishes it didn’t have to be like that, and that people could just come to concerts and celebrate art because they can. But newsflash people. Him charging a certain amount for a concert doesn’t make him a criminal, it makes him a musician. It makes him a major Top 40 artist. People so much of the time forget that this is a music business, and that before art in this business a lot of the time comes money. Don’t get me wrong, that sucks. It’s hard. There’s a lot of artists out there who are so so SO good at what they do, amazing musicians and artists but maybe aren’t at the top of the charts because major record labels know that their sound isn’t what is going to market the most money. That is a reality for artists of ALL skin colors, economic standings, sexual orientations, genders, any of the above. The struggle is incredibly real, and in this song Macklemore acknowledges that.
But that isn’t the only thing that I want to talk about here. Because a lot of people seem disgusted by the fact that Macklemore released Same Love recently and even won an award for it without letting Mary Lambert speak. And while I wish that in many ways she could have spoken, like MANY, I really, honestly DO NOT think that this is Macklemore’s fault, and to blame this on the color of his skin or on his gender or on his sexual orientation is absolutely one hundred percent wrong.
Do you all realize how many cameras are at these events?! How many people are really there? Do you realize that these award shows have commercial breaks and time limits and that they only have a certain amount of time to speak before they have to leave the stage? Because for all we know, they could have been running tight on time and they could have not had time for anything else to be said. We really don’t know the entire story of what went on behind the scenes. Granted, it can be argued that Macklemore should have thought this through or given time to Mary Lambert or that it could have been more planned, which fine, I’ll give you that one but honestly, that really isn’t the point. Because somewhere underneath all of that there are people who are trying to tear Macklemore down for daring to speak out about an issue that doesn’t affect him when he is a straight white male instead of letting Mary Lambert, who is lesbian, speak. But you know what?! I think that no matter what Macklemore does, or really any straight white male out there who tries to make a difference, there will always be people bitter about the fact that it isn’t a member of LGBTQ or a person of color. Friendly reminder that this was the first time at an award show that large that gay rights were spoken about on national television on that kind of a level. Millions of people were watching that show, and that includes not only fans of Macklemore or members of LGBTQ, but it includes the white Christian rednecks who are spitting sunflower seeds out of their mouth and calling Macklemore some fag supporter. It includes EVERYONE. This is the FIRST time that LGBTQ got any kind of recognition at an award show on that kind of a scale, and Macklemore used his white straight male privilege to affect a larger audience. Maybe this sucks, maybe you hate it, maybe it makes you angry but it is NOT Macklemore’s FAULT that he was born straight, and white, and male, so why should he be penalized for trying to spread the message and word about such an important message?! Think of how many people would have tuned out if they knew that Mary Lambert was lesbian. I’m NOT by ANY means saying that’s okay. It’s not, it sucks massive balls. But what I am saying is that Macklemore reached such a wide audience by being able to talk about all of these issues, and he honestly is helping other straight white males, or females, or whatever the situation is to be less ignorant. Maybe they aren’t apart of LGBTQ, but that sure as hell doesn’t mean they can’t respect it. By Macklemore saying that on national television, not only was he doing something noble, but he was making it possible for the ignorant people to relate to and to understand his point of view as a HETEROSEXUAL person. There are a LOT of straight people out there who have absolutely NO idea what kind of struggle that LGBTQ members go through, and deal with regularly. I mean honestly people, do you really think that most ignorant straight people spend their free time researching LGBTQ rights and watching LGBTQ rallies? They don’t. The rallies and the debates are watched and created by educated heterosexuals, and by LGBTQ members exclusively. And for the first time, Macklemore, a completely straight white male hip hop artist talked about gay rights on a show that gets MILLIONS of views every single year. It was an iconic moment, and a moment that really, people should be proud of.
Macklemore didn’t ask to be white. White people didn’t ask or request to be born into white families and they didn’t ask for privilege. Society is what handed that to them, and that isn’t fair, and it sucks, just as much as what is handed to people who are not white sucks by comparison. No black man asks to be born black just as much as no white man asks to be born white. No straight man asks to be born straight just as much as no gay man asks to be born gay. No one asks to be born male or female, these things just HAPPEN. Life just happens. And while society shapes us into the individuals that we are as we live life, and while privilege is eventually put into place based on how we grow up in a world where preconceived notions and identities of who we are supposed to be already exist…. we can’t blame individuals for that. It’s no one’s fault that they were born a certain way. And it’s NOT Macklemore’s fault that he was born into the “norm” of our society. He was born a straight white male, and that is who he is. And unlike what he could be rapping about, which is cars, or bitches, or money…. he is using his rap to make a difference, and to open up the eyes of people who wouldn’t be ordinarily looking to the realities behind the hardships of LGBTQ members.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is absolutely extraordinary.
Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem at NYC Pride Rally 2013
To those people who think Gaga
- can’t sing live
- doesn’t care about the LGBT+ community
suck. my. rainbow. dick.
There were actually conservatives running around and calling her a terrible person for changing the words of the National Anthem like this.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. If you search anything with the word “gay” on it on Google today, the whole search bar becomes framed by rainbow.
