People really need to understand that while other ethnicities can judge and oppress white people for the color of their skin and that isn’t fair and it sucks, it IS NOT racism and will not be considered racism ever. Racism runs into a thick line of black history and Asian history and latina history and news flash white people, we don’t have a history like that. Yes other ethnicities can judge us or “oppress” us for the color of our skin. But that is a little something we call PREJUDICE. There is a big, big difference and saying that they are the same is disrespectful to black history, Asian history, latina history, just about any history of an ethnicity except for white. And you are WAAAAY too naive if you think they are the same thing, and I’m a white person saying that.
Until white people are enslaved by another race, until white people have to sit in the back of the bus and until white people aren’t represented over a black person in court, a black person being prejudiced is not “racism”. And while it does NOT make being prejudiced okay and that is completely not what I am saying, as white people we need to respect the difference.
Oh, and I really hope the Anon from last night is reading this.
When I was 7, I lived in NC. Because of where I lived before, I really didn't have any racial bias. But in NC, everyone was racist against everyone. The closest grocery story was run by a black family -- the refused to check us out at the register and let everyone else (all the other people were black) cut ahead. Cue the reverse at the "white" grocery store. I laugh at people who say you can't be racist against white people. You can hate anyone for any reason. That simple.
